Hidden Lake Redux 40 Years Later

Jerry and Betty from the 1979 trip joined by Jen who was not on board. Lynn planned to join us and bummer, got stuck in a meeting. We couldn’t recreate the “old bunch”. Missing were Gae, Bob and Tanka, Joy, Dick, Syd, Elliot and Muffin and Harry.

Getting started in 1979 – Joy hiked in Espadrilles – ouch

Feeley Lake – one of 4 lakes we hike by to reach Hidden Lake

Perfect day, just like in 1979

Hey El…what’s in the pack?

Why doesn’t the moss come to the base of the trees?

Delany Lake – the marsh encroaching

Round Lake – we think

Island Lake, where we named clouds and had lunch…

Island Lake in 1979

So young, this crowd

There’s a trail up to Hidden Lake in 1979

Lynn told us the trail seemed to be gone and we never found that last piece either, bush-wacked up through rocks and brush

Hidden Lake and a VERY hearty tree

Catch anything, Elliot?

Hidden Lake’s whale

And it’s elephant

Check out the cute young couple

Someone’s done a better job of creating our fire-pit

Setting up in 1979

Believe we found the “convenient” trees surrounding the wash we used for our tarp in ’79

Setting up camp – do note the Canfield’s brilliantly recognizing location, location, location

Enjoying a campfire under the stars

Oops, drying out sleeping bags – fire burned the fabric and oops, a feather shower

Heading cross country looked like a great idea to “Shortcut” – aka Jerry

No trail…but Shortcut fantasized we’d find one just over the next bluff

Still no trail – so we backtracked, found the trail and shot this photo back to where we’d explored by bush-wacking

Hidden Lake Redux was a glorious adventure – missed all of you from our ’79 trip
